The Skyliner Changes Transportation!
The Skyliner changes everything when it comes to park transportation. I know that is a big statement and you may even be doubting me on it. Access to the skyliner though, makes a world of difference in transportation to the parks.
There is one major problem with the Skyliner - it only goes to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. We have stayed at three resorts now with access to the Skyliner though and it makes such a difference, especially when your other option is a Disney bus. I am not a Disney bus hater. Truly I am so thankful for the Disney transportation, but if ranking Disney transportation, buses do fall at the bottom of my list. This is at least in part due to my history of buses. Exhausted toddler that falls asleep in the park and I’m now carrying to the bus stop. Two buses before there is room for us. Pre-covid, standing room only while holding toddler. Waiting for the third bus because the first two were full. You get the idea.
You should also know, I am not opposed to social distancing. Please give me six feet apart. Please stay out of my bubble. I’ll settle for three feet apart, just please give me space. If polite social conduct allows people to stand within inches of me, why is not polite for me to tell them that I need more space than they are giving me? All of this is better for another discussion so let me get back to the Skyliner!
One of the incredible things about the Skyliner is that there is access to a variety of resorts, including value and moderate resorts. While Caribbean Beach is the Skyliner hub, there are stops at the Riviera Resort, Pop Century and Art of Animation as well. With the Skyliner stopping at the World Showcase entrance, you easily have access from the Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club as well.
Currently, the Skyliner is loaded with one family per car (Yay for social distancing!) but this could change as more things open up and spacing becomes less of a necessity. There are often very long lines for the Skyliner an hour before a park opens or at the end of the day near closing. Don’t allow this to intimidate you! The Skyliner is continuously loading and because of that, the lines move quickly.
When there is a thunderstorm, the skyliner will shut down for guests. If you are staying at a resort on the skyliner route though, they may have specific places for buses to pick up. Make sure you check at your Skyliner stop to see where the bus will come. At Riviera and Caribbean, there is a bus stop next to the Skyliner where buses for Hollywood Studios and Epcot will stop while the Skyliner is closed. Do not assume any bus stop will work! There are many stops around Caribbean Beach Resort and these two buses do not necessarily stop at all of them. The best thing you can do is check with a cast member on what the normal process is.
There are times when the Skyliner may pause. I saw it occur a few times during my last visit while staying at Riviera. The pauses are typically very short but can be a little nerve wracking. We often saw this when a larger family or a family with a stroller, had trouble getting transferred into the car quickly enough. Cast members can slow down the cars as well as stop them in order to ensure everyone is safely entered into the Skyliner car and this can affect those already on their way.
There is also disability access cars on the Skyliner. There will be a separate line for disability access once you get inside the skyliner hub as these cars load in a different spot. Talk to a cast member if you aren’t sure where to go to access these cars.
My family frequently visits Epcot and it’s not out of the ordinary for us to schedule several dinners there during the week. Having access to the Skyliner makes that so much easier since we can use this transportation to and from our resort as well.
